Sr. Engineer - Neural Engineering Control Systems
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, is seeking a Sr. Engineer to join the Neural Engineering Laboratory. You will be part of a team of engineers and scientists collaborating with the Mayo Clinic Division of Engineering to design, develop, and test control systems for Deep Brain Stimulation, incorporating neurochemical inputs and other physiological signals.
Requirements
• Significant experience in real time adaptive and nonlinear control of neurophysiological systems or living systems, demonstrated by a track record of publications and patents, etc
• A comprehensive graduate level coursework which should include many of the following: time domain control systems, dynamic programming, calculus of variations, Lyapunov design methods, nonlinear differential and difference equations, feedback linearization, noise and uncertainty mitigation, design and construction of real-time microcontrollers, instruction set architectures of commercial low power microcontrollers, real time operating systems written in the C language or in assembly language, neural networks, fuzzy logic, digital signal processing, optimization methods, numerical methods, and statistical analysis and modeling.
• Experience handling research projects and working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, scientific, medical and/or engineering environment
• Strong communication skills, including manuscript writing and oral presentations.
• A Ph.D. in control systems, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, physics or a related field, with a GPA of 3.4/4.0 or better
The successful candidate will provide leadership in modeling of electrical and chemical neurological interactions and work in an established interdisciplinary team consisting of physicians, engineers, and scientists. Responsibilities include the following:
• Developing, implementing and verifying modeling strategies
• Designing and conducting experiments with animal and human subjects
• Writing grant applications and selecting capital equipment
• Preparing manuscripts, presentations and posters
• Manage competing priorities
• Building and managing research collaborations with other institutions
